Mema & Me

Being Mema's aunt I was very close to her. In her pre school years we spent endless times together. She would come to stay at my place most weekends and I would go and stay with her.We would get up to mischief, have little 'adventures', go up the woods or to the swing park, trips to London to see the sights, a day trip to France lots of things that gave us pleasure. As she grew up the close bond grew stronger. I was very proud of her academic achievements, not least when she appeared in a school concert playing the recorder. I still have the program thirty odd years later. Mema was really a home bird, she liked her comfort zone. Her horizons did spread a little when she passed her driving test, but she never ventured far from Belvedere. Now it was her turn to come and pick me up! There would be shopping trips, visits to local places of interest, we even spent a weekend away in the heart of Kent in a lovely little cottage. Hardly a day went by when we didn't speak on the phone, she was a real chatterbox! In the last couple of years Mema would come to Dartford early every Saturday morning with her 'baby' Patch to collect me and my dogs Sadie & Lucky and we'd go back to Belvedere for the day. We would muck about with the dogs, go to the shops (she loved shopping!!!), watch a bit of tele, she'd cook dinner, I'd wash up and then we'd all bundle back in the car for the trip back to my house, thoroughly exhausted! Simple pleasures, often hilarious, but so enjoyable. How I miss those Saturdays with my mate Mema!!!
