When Mema left school, she and Tracy earned spending money by going calling, having a market stall and going to boot fairs. Later on she and Tracy went to work at Tracy's boyfriend John's furniture warehouse. In 1990 Tracy married John and settled down in Belvedere. Mema however was to busy having fun to have boyfriends! As Tracy and John lived near, Mema would spend a lot of time at her place, and became very close to Kim and Bob and their children. By this time Mema had found the ability and flair to make elaborate curtains, cushions, and bed linen for family and friends. (She was very expert at this!). In 1998 Tracy had baby Jack and Mema became a loving aunty. By 2000 Mema had met her boyfriend Mark, they were together for seven years. About the same time Nanny Lee became unwell and Mema took on the role as her full time carer. She also did a few cleaning jobs to make ends meet, but in 2003 she became a lunch time supervisor at her old primary school, St. Augustine's. She really loved the job,and found it so rewarding, plus all the children in her care loved her too! She went to college as a mature student and gained many qualifications in Child Care, and in 2006 she became a Senior Teaching Assistant at the newly opened Nursery at the school. Her patience, artistic flair and organisation skills put her in good stead to do the job very well. She was highly respected and loved by her workmates, the children and their parents. A memorial plaque in her honour has been placed in the foyer of the nursery, she may not be with us , but she will never be forgotten.
